Using the same healing formula as our regular Coconut Māmaki Balm, this special ʻIliahi (Hawaiian Sandalwood) version uses 100% pure Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil to add a light woodsy scent and additional skin-healing and calming properties.
Sandalwood is known for its deep and contemplative aroma, which is why it’s been used in religious and spiritual practices around the world for centuries.
Made in Hawaii from organic coconut + olive oil and local beeswax, infused with our farm-grown mamaki (Hawaiian nettle) with the precious essential oil of Hawaiian Sandalwood from the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.
The oil is only harvested from already fallen or dead trees to prevent overharvesting, which decimated the native forests in the past. Native insects like the yellow-faced bees are attracted to the ‘Iliahi flowers, another reason why we love supporting native plant regeneration.
Māmaki and ʻIliahi are both important parts of the native Hawaiian forest.

Start with a small pea-sized amount and massage into desired areas.

Pikake is the Hawaiian name for Jasmine - Princess Kaiulani, the last princess of the Hawaiian Kingdom, was said to adore her jasmine plants where her peacocks would roam. Pikake is the Hawaiianized word for peacock, and has become the name for jasmine in Hawaii.
Due to Jasmine’s high cost, many pikake-scented products on the market are not made from pure jasmine. We only use pure, third-party tested essential oils in all of our formulations to ensure that these are truly therapeutic, and used in safe doses to prevent sensitization.
To use: Take a small amount and warm in palms/fingertips until smooth, then apply to hair. Apply small amounts for adding shine and texture to hair, apply more for a strong hold.

What is Māmaki?
Māmaki Pipturus albidus is a stingless nettle that only grows in the Hawaiian Island chain. It has co-evolved with one of two native butterfly species, pulelehua (a.k.a. Kamehameha butterfly), who favors mamaki as its host plant to lay its eggs. Adult pulelehua (males) drink the sap of the koa tree, so a healthy native forest includes both koa and mamaki. As deforestation by humans have occurred, less and less mamaki and therefore the pulelehua are being seen in the wild. However, with the recent popularity of mamaki as a healthy tea product, many family-owned farms have been established on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. Our māmaki comes from our own natural farm as well as from organic farms we partner with here on Hawaiʻi Island. The more mamaki there is, the more we can restore habitat for the pulelehua.
Māmaki is pronounced maah-mah-key and spelled with the kahakō, the macron, which lengthens the vowel. The kahakō has been omitted in some places due to searchability for the non-Hawaiian speaking audience and technical issues on some fonts that are used on this website.
